The Rockies Tour In Canada

The Canadian Rockies consists of the Canadian segment of the North America’s Rocky Mountains range. The Canadian Rockies are the easternmost part of the Canadian Cordillera, which is the collective name for the mountain ranges of Western Canada.

The Rocky Mountains of Canada are a vast land - filled with inspiring and beautiful scenery, exotic wildlife, and offers a multitude of recreational activities for all age groups and a lot of unique opportunities that tourists visiting the place can enjoy.

The Canadian Rockies have a distinct feature from the American Rockies. They are older mountains than American Rockies and they were primarily formed by over thrusting whereas the American Rockies were primarily formed by uplifting. The American Rockies are cored with granite where as Canadian Rockies are almost exclusively sedimentary rock.

There are five national parks located within the Canadian Rockies viz. Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Yoho and Waterton. The first four - Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho interlock and make up the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage site. The Waterton national park is not included in the World Heritage Site. Waterton does not interlock with the others as it lies farther south - along the international boundary.

Mount Robson is the highest peak among others in the Canadian Rockies. Mount Robson is particularly impressive as it stands out on the continental divide towering over Yellowhead Pass.

Yellowhead is one of the lowest passes in the Canadian Rockies, and is very close to the Yellowhead Highway. Climbing Mount Robson is an exciting and challenge task suitable for experienced and well-prepared mountaineers and it usually requires a week on the mountain.
