Carrickfergus is a place located in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland. The name of this town is derived from the Irish word “Carraig Fhearghais” which means “Rock of Fergus”. The place is the home to Carrickfergus Castle which was built in 12th century. This castle is considered as the great asset of Normans. The history of Carrickfergus tells about the Battle of Carrickfergus which was fought between forces of Queen Elizabeth I and the Scots clan of MacDonnell. Moreover, one of the most significant events in the history of Carrickfergus is King William the Third of Orange had visited this place for the first time in June 1690 to fight battle with King James. In the memory of this event his memory was set up by building a statue and a colourful annual Pageant re-enacts this great and famous landing every year.
