The Pantheon |
| |
The Pantheon – This is widely known because of its large dome. The Pantheon was built as a temple for all the Roman gods during 125-128 AD at some point in the reign of Emperor Hadrian. This ancient architecture still functions as a church so when you visit this place, it is expected that you observe silence. The hole at he center of the building’s ceiling is designed to prevent the Pantheon from collapsing. Marcus Agrippa built the original structure during 27 BC. There are still traces of the bronze ceiling, which had melted during Pope Urban VIII’s reign. |
